A particularly highly regarded heirloom, which hails from Russia, and was named after the American singer and activist of the same name. The tomato was likely developed by the Russian State, for outdoor growing, and named to honour Robeson, as he was awarded the Stalin Peace Prize in 1952. Flavour-wise, it is rich and smoky, some sweetness and very complex. I can see why it has been used in so many crosses!

Indeterminate plants are vigorous plants with a vining tendency. They set their fruits at intervals along their stems, and will readily grow side shoots and suckers (shoots from ground level). They need good, strong support, and it is advisable to remove the majority of the side shoots and suckers unless you have plenty of space and fertile soil to allow them to grow to their full potential.
