Maglia Rosa is a highly productive, determinate cherry tomato. It has a semi-cascading habit, but in my opinion it is too big for a hanging basket, so grows well in a 14lt bucket, or raised bed, and it benefits from some support to keep the fruit off the ground. Introduced in 2011, this is one of Fred Hempel’s creations, and although it isn’t part of the Bumblebee or Tiger series, it fits beutifully with them. Much like Fred Hempel’s other cherries, Maglia Rosa is riduclously productive, very beautiful with stripes and clear skin, making it amost opalescent, and also extremely tasty!
Determinate, regular leaf, early.
Determinate plants have a bushy habit and should not be pruned. They will set all of their fruit at the same time, at the end of each branch. Smaller determinates, under 1m or so, will be happy in a 12-14lt pot, and are very well suited to planters and raised beds. They are great plants to have outside the back door, for casual snacking as well as bringing indoors to use.
