Elena’s Emerald Caramel was selected by well known breeder Sofia Saakova, Stavropol, Russia. Sofia's friend Elena Efremova helped in the stabilisation of this variety, so it has been named after her. The fruits are tricolour, elongated hearts, a green bas, covered in flames of pink and orange, with anthocyanin shoulders. The reveal on slicing is the real treat, with the core being brightly pink! These get to 200-400g, and the flavour is fantastic - bright, fruity, and very sweet.
Indeterminate plants are vigorous plants with a vining tendency. They set their fruits at intervals along their stems, and will readily grow side shoots and suckers (shoots from ground level). They need good, strong support, and it is advisable to remove the majority of the side shoots and suckers unless you have plenty of space and fertile soil to allow them to grow to their full potential.
