A Russian variety of unknown origin, Burnt Sugar is a compact plant which produces a heavy crop of large brown beefsteaks with excellent flavour. The exterior is pinky-brown with green shoulders, and inside the flesh is caramel coloured with a beautiful pink heart. Flavour is umami-rich and a little smokey, with plenty of sweetness to balance it. This is a great tomato!
Compact, potato leaved indeterminate which grows well outdoors, ours did well in a 14lt pot and reached around 1m20 in height. I allowed it to grow 4 leaders.
Indeterminate plants are vigorous plants with a vining tendency. They set their fruits at intervals along their stems, and will readily grow side shoots and suckers (shoots from ground level). They need good, strong support, and it is advisable to remove the majority of the side shoots and suckers unless you have plenty of space and fertile soil to allow them to grow to their full potential.
